Acquitted At Last!

If you are a Canadian and don't know the name of Steven Truscott then you are ignorant beyond belief. It was forty years ago when I first read Isabel LeBourdais book about Steven Truscott and I turned to my Mother then and said he is innocent!. It has taken 48 years for our court system to finally acquit him of the murder.
This story is every mother's nightmare. The down right lies and stupidity of people in a position of trust makes me gag. The pathologist was incompetent, the police screwed up and worst of all the phrase "innocent until proven guilty" and " beyond a shadow of a doubt" was completely ignored!
Sentenced to hang at 14 years old, taken away in shackles to prison, sitting under the threat of the gallows for months. I weep for his lost youth.

Steven, I always believed in you. Hugs to you and your loved ones!

To our court system: WHY DIDN'T YOU DO THE RIGHT THING AND EXONERATE HIM?
Far be it for you to admit you made a mistake. Shame on you!

I Succumbed !

Ten days into the climb back up to the top of life's pile and I feel wonderful. I did succumb however. It was this way.....I went to Needles and Pins, my local wool shop , to say Happy Birthday and have a little "touchy-feely-sniff the yarn" visit. Other yarn aficionados will understand the procedure. Then my eye happened upon some Koigu. Softly variegated in shades of beige, cream, taupe...sigh.(The picture is a little dark) Oh, Oh, then some charcoal black with shades with in the shades. My mind starts to churn. I see fair isle designs. I find some honey beige, an off white, a warm rose brown, now I am in trouble. "Happy Birthday to us," says Ellen....10% off today! damn I am sunk. Now, another dilemma, how much to buy? The wonderful thing about Koigu is the originality of the yarn. The scary part is that once that shade is gone it is gone. I bought 4 black, 2 of the variegated, 2 honey, 1 ivory and 1 rose brown. Now I am starting to worry. There was one of the variegated left. I want to use it in the rib with the black so I think I will call Ellen right now and tell her to put that aside for me with another black. This is for a vest for Michael for Christmas. I will only use the rose brown sparingly just to warm it up. I think it will be gorgeous when it is done.
OOps she is closed on Monday. I will send her an email.

I am going to knit up a swatch of the pattern so I can "check the gauge." When it's done I will post a picture here.

By the By I am furiously knitting on the Silky Wool indigo cardi for Carl. The back and sleeves are done and I am almost ready to start the decreasing for the v neck and the the sleeve decrease. I designed a cable inset for the front. I think it looks smashing! His Birthday is October 2 I would really like to have it finished before then.

Other than that things are going very well. I am exercising every day, eating a well balanced diet and sleeping right through the night.

One more thing... I got frugal ( After all I blew the budget on the yarn) and decided to take care of my "roots" my self. Weeelll, I look a little like Jayne Mansfield minus the boobs and the legs.

Could be worse....giggle

Animusic..Have you heard it?

This is so fantastic. I was having a surf ..on my lunch break..of course, and I came across this on YouTube. So then of course I had to see as many as possible. Fantasy High Tech Escapism I love it !!

More..... More........I really like this one there are so many to see.

Music to feed the senses...enjoy. My youngest grand daughter will love this stuff.

Monday Monday, so good to me....

The "Mamas and the Papas" for those of you too young to know were a group in the heady days of my youth. They originated in the Maritimes. Denny Doherty passed away this year and although many people didn't know he was a "Papa" he was more notable to my children as the Harbour Master for Theodore Tugboat.
Their music was very "sing-a-long" "feel good," "Californian Dreaming" was their only #1 Hit. Mama Cass had a heart attack in 1974. Her voice was so pure and clear. Dream A Little Dream of Me is one of my all time faves..Oh Oh and Words of Love..... Sigh

Monday should be the best day of the week. It a beginning that we have not had a chance to screw up. ..yet.

My rut has been sooooo deep.

It is time to drag myself out of this rut I am in. An unfortunate series of events lately have driven me pretty far into the morass of self pity. It is amazing really because it all came about because I finally stood up for myself and SLAP down I went. It is a long story but I have been very upset that a person I respected and appreciated turned on me so viscously.
This was the third episode of "let's snap at Susan" this summer. Thank God that's over. Regardless of what anyone says these things so come in three's so it's best to get it over with.
Now the summer is almost over and all the things I intended to do didn't get done.
Carl even commented that I haven't been working on any of my projects. Subtle way of saying, "How's my sweater coming on?" *rueful smile.
Therefore, effective this weekend I am on my way back up. Years ago I read an inspirational allegory called "Hinds Feet On High Places". It is around here somewhere. Jackie, my oldest friend, whom I haven't seen in about 10 years, mailed it back to me after having it on her book shelf for about 15 yrs..lolol I think I need to read it again!
November is Nanowrimo and after giving Corinne the "gears' about not finishing last year, I had better have myself motivated. Last year I had a picture of a Pompeian Ivory doll for my inspiration. I have a germ of an idea for this year. I don't want to dwell on it too much because then I will loose the spontaneity.
I read 5 books this summer. "Latest Harry Potter"...of course very predictable but fun, "The Last Supper" by Javier Sierra.....interesting, "The Crimson Petal and The White" by Michel Faber...I enjoyed this story right up to the end when the author ran out of ideas and just ended it abruptly. Pissed me off big time!, "The Time Traveller's Wife "by Audrey Niffenegger.....finally just gave up on this it was very aggravating and "Observations" by Jane Harris.. .... most enjoyable.
O.K. That's all for now....

I think I am in a rut!

Life is boring and I can't think of a single thing of interest to write about. I go to work and I come home. I watch TV, read a little and even knitting doesn't seem to interest me lately. This is serious! I think I need a holiday I am tired all the time. My get up and go has gone up and went.

Books, Books, Books

My apologies for being gone so long. Sheesh where is the time going? On that note.....

My daughter's recent blog brought back some pleasant memories. When the children were small I used to read to them. It started with story books that could be completed in one reading and then we progressed to longer books. I started to read at the dinner table while they were eating dessert. "The Indian In The Cupboard" was the first one I can remember. I like to think that that exercise not only developed in my children a love of reading but in a great measure developed their imagination. I fear we live in a society where the TV and now the computer does everything for children. they don't have to spell...we have spell check, they don't have to know math..we have calculators, they don't even have to imagine....the images are in in wide screen.
I read with satisfaction that Corinne and the girls had a trip to the book store where they were introduced to "Choose Your Own Adventure" books. One of the things we can give to our children in a love of books. Thanks to the library, everyone regardless of your income bracket can access books.
Now I am going to tell you how I came to love reading. This may be hard for some people to believe but yes there was life before television. We didn't have one when I was growing up! Firstly they were too expensive and secondly my mother was convinced we would all grow up illiterate! Friday night the library was open until 9pm. After supper we would pile into the car and drive down to the library on Bertie Street in Fort Erie. Miss Duckworth was the librarian, God rest her soul. Four foot nothing and as old as God she ruled that edifice like a lion. No one was exempt from her rule. There was no talking, no dripping umbrella's and you had better remove your snow boots at the door! Winter trips to the library meant taking your slippers the hardwood floor was cold! The room wasn't large ,there was a central aisle dividing the room. The right side was for children the left side was for adults. No child would even consider crossing the imaginary line. By the time I was in Grade 7 I had read all the children's books and my father went to Miss Duckworth to request permission for me to "cross the aisle".
He had been checking out books for me written by such authors as Thomas Costain and Frank Yerby. She had to "think about it" as she was concerned about "setting a precedence." Secretly I think she was pleased in the development of my mind and used to ask me question about the books I read. We came to this agreement, if there was no one in the library I could browse the adults shelves but if someone came in I had to back to the children's section. Can you even imagine such an arrangement today? In this society of "No One Is Going To Tell My Child What To Do"..shaking my head. Well, I want you to know I wasn't scared for life..lololol By the time I was in Grade 9 I was reading War and Peace.
Hmmm maybe it is time to revisit some of those titles again. I remember "The Black Rose" and "Below The Salt" as timeless stories of knights and ladies, mystery and adventure.
One day I will introduce my grand daughters to them. Miss Duckworth would approve.

Crack of Thunder snap of Lightening

Well. here I am on my zero gravity chair..sitting on the patio with the Sunday evening breeze wafting past me.
How so you ask?...... Well, there comes a time when you just have to bite the bullet and face the reality of the dreaded "power surge"...Yes I had a surge protector but obviously it had been fried in a previous life...sigh
Skip the tedious details, ...fried power supply, processor, mother board....shudder......

Now I am the owner of a new Toshiba laptop. With wireless remote....hence my relaxed pose on the patio....surrounded by the sound of the evening song birds and let me tell you if that little boy Cardinal doesn't find himself a girl friend soon I shall "do him an injury!" *BG...my glass of wine and my book.."on tape".

so far I have won exactly 2 games of spider solitaire.

Zero Gravity Chairs

O.K. this is the greatest patio chair I have ever sat it. My daughter got one (thank you wonderful son in law, Chris) and once I sat in it I wanted one! Carl was at a loss what to buy me for my birthday. He sent me a beautiful European plant garden for my office in a "copper" planter ( which he called a spitton .........sigh and shaking my head). I have it on my desk. so I told him about these chairs and we drove all over London till we got one for me....he was so taken with it he got one for himself too!!. You put your feet against the bar and push and it reclines... Oh joy Oh bliss...... Carl just flops himself right out and snoozes. ("Peasant") I recline in a Ladylike manner and read my book, glass of wine in hand. I am going to get a lot of mileage out of this chair this summer!!! Defintely to be put on your list of what to get the hard to buy for person. I rate this chair + + + + + + out of 6

The Sultan's Elephant

I just found out about this free street theatre, The Royal DeLuxe. They were in London England in May 2006.
I wish I had seen this for real.
Watch the videos The Sultan's Little Girl and The Sultan's Elephant . The Giant's Little Girl reminds me of my Grand daughter Ryleigh..*BG
This is so magical I would loved to have seen it for real with my grand daughters.
